Koepka describes his biggest personal victory as defending his title at the 2018 U.S. Open, where in 2017 he claimed his first major victory in Erin Hills, Wisconsin, and also caused a stir: At 16 under par, he and Rory McIlroy (2011) have the lowest score at a U.S. Open. But Koepka is doubly proud to win again after a forced break due to illness after an operation on his wrist. This triumph also makes him the second golfer after Tiger Woods to win the U.S. Open in two consecutive years. Nevertheless, Brooks was still one of the forgotten players after this victory. He is unknown even in the USA for a player of this caliber. For example, after the round at the PGA Championship 2018, which he later won, Koepka went to a gym with his tour colleague Dustin Johnson. According to Koepka, it was there that the world number one Dustin Johnson quickly made the rounds. It went unnoticed, however, that the freshly baked 2-fold Majorchamp had come through the door with him. “But I can only laugh about it,” says Koepka. By the way, he won the PGA Championship confidently ahead of Tiger Woods, who had regained his former strength and did everything in his power to make Koepka still contest the title. In 2019 he also successfully defended his title and became the first player to defend both the US Open and the PGA Championship in the following years.
Also a strong player at the Ryder Cup
And Brooks Koepka also showed his mental and playing strength at his first Ryder Cup participation in 2016: In Hazeltine he was able to win two matches in the foursome and one in the singles in four matches. Only against Rory McIlroy and Thomas Pieters, together with Dustin Johnson, was he able to score only one divided point.
